Description

Day 1 We leave around 10 as this is an easy day. We will walk approximately 4 hours until we reach our campsite. We will go through the subantartic forest, composed mainly by lenga, guindo and ñires ( high deciduous, antarctic and evergreen beech trees) to reach a peatland valley and fallow beban ́s river. We will stop for lunch near a small waterfall. From that place the view to Carbajal Valley and Ushuaia ́s peaks is very enjoyable. Our goal is the bottom of Beban valley where our first camp awaits us. It is located less than one hour away from the base of hanging glacier Beban. We can leave our backpack to go and visit this area. It is important to rest well because the second day will be much more demanding. Distance: 7 km. Elevation gain: 200 m Day 2 In the morning after a good breakfast we start with a two-hour ascent outside the vegetation limit to reach a pass that connect with Ojo del Albino glacier. This is a semi technical part that involves slabs and screes that can be more technical when wet and more icy. We will gain around 700 meters till we reach Ojo del Albino Glacier. We cross the glacier with crampons and can appreciate crevasses and Ojo Del Albino glacier lake.. After lunch on the other side we will continue down slabs and screes with some very steep parts. Once we reach the tree line we have 40 minutes left till we arrive at the famous Esmeralda lake. After some time on its shore we will continue to Road National 3 that we will cross to camp in Olum Valley. There we will enjoy a perfect dinner in the mountains.Distance: 12 km. Elevation gain: 700 m. Elevation loss: 700 m Day 3 This is the longest day of the trip. We begin a progressive ascent to the bottom of the Olum valley where a steep climb to the col de los Gendarmes awaits us. This has challenging parts and you might use your hands. Arriving at this pass between mountains. We can enjoy views of the Carbajal valley and the Alvear range to the North. We continue to border the base of 5 Hermanos mountains. towards the lake of the same name. We are in a hanging valley between the two most emblematic mountains of Ushuaia. Monte Olivia and Cerro 5 Hermanos. Two of the highest fold mountains that surround Ushuaia. Our new objective is the summit of Cerro Cloche overlooking the Beagle Channel. After enjoying the stunning views between sea and mountains, we start our descent towards the coast through the forest. Once we reach the coastline, we will pass by Estancia Tunel, one of the oldest farm of the area that will be the perfect excuse to talk about Ushuaia Pioneers and history. Those old houses are typical from patagonia and here was established successively a tonels factory, then a sea lion oil factory, and a farm. Nowadays it still belong to one of the first settlers' families and land is used for cattle. The transfer awaits us at Escarpados lighthouse and we return to the city around 19h.Distance: 19 km Elevation gain: 800m. Elevation loss: 800m.
